Timing Belt Replacement
A snapped timing belt (otherwise known as a cambelt) can require engine head dismantling and valve replacement to resolve, with labour and materials often costing hundreds of pounds.
Cambelts are typically made from rubber and it is widely recommended that they are replaced every 3 years or 60,000 miles to avoid the belt breaking and causing serious engine damage. Replacement of a timing belt is usually vastly cheaper than repairs caused by a cambelt failure, and takes far less time to complete.

EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) Valve Cleaning/Replacement
The EGR Valve helps modern engines run more cleanly by recycling a portion of your exhaust back into the combustion process. This results in a more consistent burn at a lower temperature, which significantly reduces the harmful gas emissions produced by your engine.
EGR systems are necessary for most cars to pass a modern emissions test, which is also part of your annual MOT. The valve can become heavily clogged with carbon residue and require cleaning or, in severe cases, replacement. A clogged EGR system will usually cause an engine warning light to appear on your dashboard.
The Alternator charges the battery and powers your car's electrical systems while the engine is running.
Tell-tale signs of Alternator problems include erratic headlamp output and intermittent outages in the vehicle's electrical systems. Many modern vehicles also display a dashboard warning light to indicate alternator trouble, which can vary from one make to another.
A faulty alternator can also give the appearance of a dead battery - when the alternator malfunctions the battery is no longer being efficiently recharged, so quickly runs out of power.
